Abstract: An automated device sorts and classifies mixed plastic waste by regulating feed, separating adjacent articles, acquiring complementary material and physical measurements, and associating the measurements with individually tracked items. A classification controller determines a polymer category and confidence level, while a coordinated diversion arrangement directs accepted items to designated collection paths and uncertain items to a separate route. Adaptive throughput control, outlet verification, collection status monitoring, sensor condition assessment, and event recording improve fraction purity, operational continuity, maintenance planning, and traceability across variable waste streams.
