MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641076078 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on June 19, 2026, for An Assistive Input Device For Hands-Free Computer Control.

Inventors include Murali Mohan G; and Mohammed Shabith P.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: An assistive input device (100) for hands-free computer control comprises an air pressure sensor (102), a mouthpiece (104), a joystick module (106), a microcontroller board (108), a joystick module mount (110), an enclosure (112), a lid (114), an air passage opening (116), a mounting provision (118), and a communication port (120). The air pressure sensor (102) detects inhalation and exhalation through the mouthpiece (104) and supplies pressure signals to the microcontroller board (108). The microcontroller board (108) distinguishes sip and puff inputs, interprets breath events as Morse elements, decodes text characters and command inputs, and switches between text-entry and navigation modes in response to predefined breath commands. The joystick module (106) provides directional navigation and selection input. The microcontroller board (108) adjusts detection thresholds with reference to idle baseline pressure and transmits control signals to a host computer through the communication port (120).
