Abstract: ABSTRACT The invention relates to an artificial intelligence-based smart traffic management system and method for adaptive control of vehicular traffic at road intersections. The system comprises traffic data acquisition devices, an edge processing unit, an artificial intelligence-based traffic control engine, a predictive traffic control module, a signal control interface and a physical traffic signal controller. Live traffic data captured from cameras, sensors and communication nodes is processed in real time to determine lane-wise traffic parameters including vehicle count, queue length, speed, occupancy and waiting time. The traffic control engine generates congestion scores and predicts near-future traffic states. Based on the prediction and safety constraints, signal control commands physically modify signal phase sequence, green-light duration, red-light duration, amber-light duration or cycle length. The system further detects emergency vehicles and incidents for priority passage and corrective control, thereby reducing congestion and enhancing road safety.
