Abstract: The present invention provides a single-step catalyst assisted chemo-mechanical alkaline process in which a specific class of quaternary alkyl ammonium salts act as phase-transfer catalysts (PTC), including alkyl diamine if needed, enables multiple functions within one treatment, including de-inking of flexible plastic films, delamination of multilayer structures through disruption of adhesive and tie layers, demetallization of metallized layers (e.g., aluminum), alkaline depolymerization of PET components present in post- consumer multilayer plastic (MLP) waste and other post-consumer flexible plastics, as well as industrial waste.
