Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for processing onions of multiple shapes. The apparatus comprises a multi-lane pick-and-place module, a biomimetic gripper unit, a geometric stabilization plate with root relief slots, a root and tail cutting unit, a vertical slitting unit, and a tangential pneumatic nozzle unit. The method includes extracting onions, stabilizing them using geometric contours, removing root and tail portions, forming controlled longitudinal slits, and peeling the outer skin using low-pressure tangential airflow at 6 bar through 1.2 mm micro-nozzles. The invention enables efficient processing of round, oblate, and conical onions without pre-sorting, reduces compressed air consumption by about 84 percent, and preserves the structural integrity and shelf life of processed onions to a level comparable to hand-peeling.
