MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088272 A) filed by Manipal University Jaipur on July 20, 2026, for An Apparatus And Method For Autonomous Camera-Based Farm Scanning, Geotagged Crop Disease Detection, Severity Mapping And Adaptive Reinspection.
Inventor includes Vijay Prakash Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for intelligent crop disease detection and geospatial disease mapping using a two-stage image acquisition framework. The system comprises a mobile imaging platform selected from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), autonomous ground vehicle, tractor, or handheld scanning device, an RGB camera, a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, a motion sensing unit, a route-control unit, a processor, a communication unit, and a memory. During a first scanning operation, the system captures overlapping geotagged crop images, evaluates image quality, identifies crop regions, and determines disease-suspicion and prediction confidence scores. A reinspection priority value is calculated for each geospatial region using image quality, disease suspicion, prediction confidence, affected-area significance, and revisit cost, following which only selected regions are subjected to a second scanning operation. The second scanning operation acquires higher-quality images by modifying one or more imaging parameters, identifies crop disease, estimates disease severity, suppresses duplicate observations arising from overlapping images, and generates unique geospatial disease records. The system further generates a geospatial disease map indicating disease location, severity, prediction confidence, and inspection status. The invention reduces inspection time, energy consumption, data transmission, storage requirements, and computational load while improving disease detection reliability and enabling efficient precision crop management.
