Abstract: The present invention discloses an apparatus and a method for fabricating functionally graded hybrid fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites using the Vacuum- Assisted Resin Transfer Moulding (VARTM) process. The apparatus comprises of a base plate, movement means, integrated resin inlet and outlet arrangement together with sliders and supporting fixtures. The slider and supporting fixtures assist in creating functional gradation within the fiber zone, by facilitating movement horizontally and vertically to create functional gradation zones within the fiber layers. Additionally, the epoxy inlet and outlet arrangements facilitate the application of epoxy and the removal of excess epoxy. The method involves placing dry reinforcement fibers on the bottom plate, adjusting the sliders to create distinct zones, applying a peel ply and distribution mesh, and covering the setup with a vacuum bag.
