MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631111782 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Indian School Of Mines, Dhanbad on September 17, 2026, for An Apparatus And A Method For Reducing A Microbial Population In A Machining Coolant.

Inventors include Vivek Bajpai; Abhijeet Bajpai; Dhiraj Bajpai; and Archana Bajpai.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: An apparatus (100) comprises a coolant reservoir (104), a pump (105) circulating the machining coolant (101) through a coolant pipeline (103) towards a cutting zone (113), a valve (107), a treatment section (106) provided between the pump (105) and the valve (107) and adjoining a portion (108) of the coolant pipeline (103), and an antibacterial mesh (102) comprising silver disposed within the treatment section (106). The treatment section (106) has an internal diameter greater than that of the adjoining portion (108) and an axial length greater than its own internal diameter, and the antibacterial mesh (102) extends across an entire flow cross-section thereof, so that the entirety of the machining coolant (101) passes through the antibacterial mesh (102). The residence time in contact with the silver is thereby increased and the flow is maintained despite bacterial debris, organic matter and colloidal particulate matter, whereby the microbial population is reduced without addition of any biocide.
