Abstract: A method comprising: decoding encoded samples of blocks of video sample data; determining at least one template region for at least a first block of video sample data, wherein the template region comprises a set of reconstructed samples at predetermined locations with respect to said first block of video sample data; performing, for the at least one template region, a decoder-side intra mode derivation process to obtain decoder-side intra mode derivation parameters; adjusting the decoder-side intra mode derivation parameters into a reduced precision; storing the adjusted decoder-side intra mode derivation parameters for at least said first block of video sample data; and forming an intra prediction block for at least a second block of video sample data in accordance with a merged decoder-side intra mode derivation process, wherein the merged decoder-side intra mode derivation process includes determining intra prediction modes based on the stored adjusted decoder-side intra mode derivation parameters.
