MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531029912 A) filed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited on March 28, 2025, for An Alkaline Electrolyzer System For Generating Hydrogen And Oxygen.
Inventors include Sreenivasu Golla; T Tirupathi Reddy; Vibha Sahay Surya; Alok Kumar Maurya; Prakash R Khadilkar; and Cd Madhusoodana.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an alkaline electrolyzer system (100) comprises of an electrolyzer stack (40) that receives potassium hydroxide (KOH) electrolyte comprising of deionized water to produce a hydrogen product stream (1) and an oxygen product stream (21). The first hydrogen separator liquid (3) is processed in a hydrogen flash separator (VF1), where dissolved gases are removed as hydrogen flash gas (7), leaving behind a hydrogen flash liquid (8). The first oxygen separator liquid (23) is treated in an oxygen flash separator (VF2) to extract oxygen flash gas (27). The degassed liquids are combined in a lye mixing unit (MX1) to produce a lye mixer outlet liquid (29), which is then cooled by a lye cooler (E4) within a recirculation system. The system (100) provides an improved gas purity, optimized energy use, continuous operation, effective gas-liquid separation, enhanced electrolyte balance, and reliable hydrogen and oxygen production.
