Inventors include Jayasree M; Dayananda Sagar Academy Of Technology And Management; Austin Masila A; Shubhan C K; Tejas Mahesh; and Mithun G.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to an edge-based computer vision system for detecting and attributing littering events in controlled environments. The system detects persons and waste objects from surveillance video, assigns temporary tracking identifiers and establishes person–waste associations across successive frames. It verifies a disposal sequence comprising waste association, release or separation, post-release persistence and subsequent person departure, and may reject carrying, collection of existing waste, passage near pre-existing litter and disposal into an authorized bin. After event verification, the system automatically maps the event to geographical coordinates or a registered camera location and identifies the corresponding operational zone, rather than merely flagging the event for generic review. An authorized identity lookup may then be performed, and an evidence package is routed to the concerned waste-collection personnel and administrator responsible for that zone. Policy-based notifications can be issued after authorized review, so that the verified event becomes a geographically actionable operational item rather than only an identity-linked violation record.
