MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641071373 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology on June 09, 2026, for An Ai-Integrated Embedded System For Automatic Energy Theft Detection.
Inventors include Dr. R. Arulmozhiyal; K. Kopperundevi; S. P. Mahaswetha; and S. Kavya.
The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.
Abstract: ASBTRACT The present invention discloses a Smart Grid Sentinel system and method for automatic energy theft detection using artificial intelligence and embedded technologies. The system comprises a current sensing module, an embedded microcontroller, an AI-based anomaly detection engine, an IoT communication module, a relay control mechanism, and an alert generation unit. The system continuously monitors electrical consumption parameters, preprocesses acquired data, and applies machine-learning algorithms to identify abnormal consumption behavior associated with unauthorized electricity usage, meter tampering, overload conditions, and non- technical losses. Upon detection of anomalies, the system generates visual and audible alerts, transmits notification data to remote monitoring platforms, and automatically disconnects electrical supply through a relay mechanism. The invention enables real-time monitoring, autonomous theft detection, reduced false positives, improved grid reliability, and scalable deployment across residential, commercial, and industrial power-distribution environments.
