Abstract: ABSTRACT [0024] The present disclosure describes a deep-learning system designed for the purpose of automated detection. Radiographs are first pre-processed to enhance contrast and standardize resolution. A convolutional network based on the Xception architecture, previously initialized with general image weights and subsequently fine-tuned on a multi-grade osteoarthritis collection, produces a five-class probability vector corresponding to the Kellgren-Lawrence scale. Gradient- weighted class-activation maps are generated to highlight the joint regions that most influence the prediction. The complete pipeline is exposed through a lightweight web application that accepts an uploaded radiograph, returns the predicted grade together with a confidence score, and displays an explanatory heatmap. Experimental evaluation demonstrates reliable discrimination among the five severity levels while maintaining computational efficiency suitable for routine clinical use.
