Abstract: The present invention relates to an AI-based system for automated code refactoring and optimization. The system receives a software codebase and generates structured code representations including abstract syntax trees, control flow graphs, data flow graphs, call graphs, dependency graphs, semantic embeddings, and code quality feature vectors. An artificial intelligence refactoring engine identifies code smells, redundant logic, inefficient execution patterns, insecure code, dead code, and maintainability issues. An optimization recommendation module generates optimized refactored code and assigns confidence, risk, performance, and maintainability scores. A semantic equivalence validation module verifies that the refactored code preserves original software behaviour by comparing data flow, input-output behaviour, interface stability, exception conditions, and test results. A controlled code modification module applies validated changes, while an audit reporting module records modifications, explanations, performance metrics, validation results, and rollback information.
