Abstract: The present invention provides an AI-based smart baggage handling and tracking system comprising a sensory data collector device (20) configured to capture real-time baggage metrics, a vision data collector device (40) positioned at predefined airport zones to capture visual tracking data, a cloud server (60) operably connected to both the sensory data collector device (20) and the vision data collector device (40) via a wireless network to form a unified dataset, and a machine learning platform (90) executing a multimodal machine learning model to continuously synthesize the unified dataset into a digital trajectory for tracking each baggage item. The sensory data collector device (20) includes a central computing unit (21) interfaced with an RFID reader (29), load cells (30), a temperature and humidity sensor (31), a GPS module (32), and an acoustic sensor (33), balanced temporally via a real-time clock (26) and transmitted via a Wi-Fi modem (25). The vision data collector device (40) is formed around a Raspberry Pi core (41) coupled to a camera (45), local data storage unit (48), and an onboard Wi-Fi modem (50). Both hardware devices (20, 40) are independently powered via dedicated solar panels (27, 44), batteries (28, 43), and power supply units (23, 42) to achieve complete grid independence. The system creates, updates, and optimizes a reliable digital trajectory for every luggage piece, greatly reducing baggage loss while providing early anomaly detection and alert capabilities directly to airport management.
