Abstract: The present invention relates to an agricultural waste derived antimicrobial textile and a method of manufacturing the same for medical and dental use. The textile comprises a blend of lignin-retaining fibers from sugarcane bagasse and banana pseudostem, treated in turn with polyphenols from Acacia catechu and Camellia sinensis. The antimicrobial property is a direct result of the inherent non-covalent bonding between lignin and polyphenols, without the need for metals, antimicrobial compounds, or surface treatments. The antimicrobial textile has non-leaching properties and retains its antimicrobial efficacy even after multiple washes.
