MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641110051 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Tiruchirappalli on September 14, 2026, for An Adaptive Gripping Mechanism.
Inventors include Thangaiyan, Devashena; and Kaliaperumal, Dhanalakshmi.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an adaptive gripping mechanism (100) comprising a base (102), a spring guide (106) movable along a guide path (108), and first and second shape memory alloy springs (104a, 104b). The first spring (104a) is coupled between the base (102) and the spring guide (106) to move the spring guide in a first direction upon actuation, while the second spring (104b) is configured to move the spring guide in an opposite direction. An actuation carriage (108a) is coupled to the spring guide (106) and translates therewith along the guide path (108). At least one guide arm (110) is pivotally connected to the actuation carriage (108a). A plurality of jaw links (114) are pivotally coupled to the guide arm (110) and support a pair of jaws (116). The antagonistically arranged shape memory alloy springs provide bidirectional spring guide movement for adaptive and regulated gripping operations.
