Abstract: The present invention relates to an adaptive antenna system having the ability to change its physical structure autonomously to optimize RF performance is disclosed. The system comprises an SMA-integrated antenna structure, an RF performance sensing unit, and a control module for SMA actuation. When RF mismatch or degradation occurs, sensed by VSWR, return loss, RSSI, or SNR, controlled heating of shape-memory alloy (SMA) components induces a phase transformation from Martensite to Austenite, changing the physical geometry of the antenna. The geometric transformation affects electrical length, resonant frequency, bandwidth, radiation pattern, and impedance properties. The antenna structure may be a dipole, monopole, patch antenna with flexible edges, or helical antenna, with SMA segments, preferably Nitinol, integrated at radiating arms, patch edges, or helical structures. The system eliminates RF switch matrices and varactor tuning networks, reducing insertion loss and nonlinear distortion, improving bandwidth adaptability, and supporting multi-band operation without multiple antenna elements, while performing reliably in harsh and EMI environments.
