MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541056843 A) filed by Vaishnavi Anand; and Soumya Sadasivaiah Goppenahalli on June 13, 2025, for Amphiphilic Fluid-Lock Absorbent Material.

Inventors include Vaishnavi Anand; and Soumya Sadasivaiah Goppenahalli.

The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.

Abstract: AMPHIPHILIC FLUID-LOCK ABSORBENT MATERIAL The invention provides an amphiphilic fluid-lock absorbent material and a method for its manufacture. The method includes treating arecanut husk fibers with sodium hydroxide followed by oxidation with hydrogen peroxide to obtain treated fibers and forming an areca fiber slurry; processing Bombax Ceiba fibers and blending with water to obtain slurry; preparing a composite slurry by combining areca fiber slurry, Bombax Ceiba slurry, and carboxymethyl cellulose hydrogel solution with citric acid; preparing a crosslinked biopolymer solution by crosslinking corn starch and tamarind seed polysaccharide with agar and aloe vera; and freeze drying a layered structure. The absorbent material comprises Areca fibre, Bombax Ceiba, Tamarind seed polysaccharide, Aloe vera, Agar, Corn starch, Acetic acid, Glycerine, and carboxymethyl cellulose in ratio 7:3:0.2:1:0.01:0.2:0.75:1:0.1, exhibits free swell absorbency of 45–50 g/g, centrifuge retention capacity of 20–22 g/g, rewet of 1.3–1.8 g/ml, and biodegrades completely in soil within 10 days.
