The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: The present invention provides an aluminium-silicon carbide metal matrix composite brake drum and a method of manufacturing thereof. The brake drum comprises a mounting portion and a circumferential wall defining an inwardly facing friction surface, wherein at least a friction region comprises an aluminium-based matrix reinforced with silicon carbide particles. The reinforcement may have a substantially uniform or radially graded concentration, with a greater concentration adjacent to the friction surface to enhance wear resistance and thermal dimensional stability while retaining structural toughness in adjoining regions. External heat- dissipation formations may facilitate removal of heat generated during braking. The manufacturing method comprises conditioning silicon carbide particles, incorporating the particles into an aluminium-based melt, controlling reinforcement distribution, casting and controlled solidification of a brake-drum preform, and machining the friction surface. The resulting composite structure provides reduced mass, enhanced wear resistance, improved heat dissipation, and resistance to thermally induced deformation. Accompanied Drawing [FIGS. 1-2]
