Abstract: Disclosed is an Aloe Vera-based biodegradable disposable cup for hot and cold liquid applications. The cup comprises a cup body having a base wall, an upwardly extending side wall and a rim region formed as a molded and dried Aloe Vera-based biopolymer matrix. The biopolymer matrix comprises Aloe Vera gel, natural starch, water, glycerin and citric acid. Aloe Vera polysaccharides bind with starch molecules to define a continuous polymeric matrix through the cup body. Glycerin is distributed through the matrix to reduce brittleness after molding and drying, while citric acid stabilizes the matrix against moisture penetration during short-duration liquid holding. The cup body is formed from the same matrix across the base wall, side wall and rim region, thereby providing a biodegradable disposable cup suitable for receiving hot and cold liquids.
