Abstract: Fusarium oxysporum causes vascular wilt disease leading to severe agricultural losses worldwide. The present invention discloses a biofungicide composition comprising proteolytic fraction P1G10 from Vasconcellea pubescens latex encapsulated within an alginate-carboxymethyl cellulose (ALG-CMC) polyelectrolyte complex for enhanced stability and antifungal efficacy. The encapsulated formulation retained about 95% enzymatic activity after 8 hours under stress conditions, compared with 67% for free enzyme. In vitro studies demonstrated dose-dependent inhibition of Fusarium oxysporum with an IC50 of approximately 11 mg/mL. The formulation reduced fungal adhesion by more than 90% and increased susceptibility to cell-wall-disrupting agents, indicating compromised cell wall integrity. The controlled-release encapsulated system provided sustained antifungal action triggered by ionic strength variations. Various embodiments including edible coatings, spray formulations, dry powders, and postharvest treatment methods achieved disease suppression rates ranging from 90% to 98%.
