Abstract: Abstract An autonomous hazard-detection system comprises a sensing head housing a plurality of heterogeneous sensor channels and a mechanically coupled, electrically independent rotating base. A behavioural signal-processing module reduces a rolling window of sensor readings to a derivative-only feature vector (“genome”) and matches it, subject to a minimum-activity gate, against a per-site library of labelled reference genomes by cosine similarity, yielding a named hazard classification without reliance on absolute sensor magnitude. On recognition, the system autonomously commands the rotating base, through a remote, polled command queue, to step the sensing head through a plurality of angularly spaced headings, sampling only after each heading is acknowledged as reached, and derives from the resulting angularly resolved sample set a bearing and confidence toward the hazard source, and, by inverse-magnitude range estimation, an estimated source coordinate. The coordinate is projected onto a three-dimensional digital twin of the monitored facility, and spread zones computed at successive forecast horizons are intersected with a named-asset register to yield a place-specific recommendation. Recognition additionally and autonomously escalates the sensing head's reporting cadence for a bounded, server-governed duration, with each captured frame carrying the system's own contemporaneous reasoning to form a forensic replay record. An optional generative-AI advisory module may provide a dashboard-directed natural-language severity assessment, but is architecturally confined to an advisory role and has no capability to invoke any actuator; all autonomous safety actuation is governed exclusively by deterministic threshold logic and/or the behavioural signal-processing module. The rotational directional-sampling and source-localisation mechanism — controlled angular movement of the sensor assembly, directional sampling at multiple angular positions, comparison of readings across positions, and derivation of a hazard-source bearing and location — is additionally claimed as a free-standing apparatus and method, independent of the behavioural, twin and advisory elements. The four principal elements — behavioural recognition, rotational localisation, twin-based spread forecasting, and reasoning-attached replay — operate as one closed, operator-free investigation loop, subject at every stage to the deterministic actuation boundary described above.
