Abstract: AIR SAMPLER: A UAV-INTEGRATED SERVO-ACTUATED BIOAEROSOL SAMPLING SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLED COLLECTION OF AIRBORNE MICROORGANISMS AT DIFFERENT ATMOSPHERIC LAYERS The present invention relates to an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-integrated airborne microbial sampling system (100) for controlled collection of airborne microorganisms, bio aerosols, fungal spores, bacteria, pollen, and other atmospheric biological particulates at different atmospheric layers. The system comprises a multirotor unmanned aerial vehicle (101), a sampling assembly (102) mounted on the upper surface of the UAV, a three-dimensional (3D) printed container body (103) configured to accommodate a Petri dish (104) containing a sterile microbial culture medium, a transparent movable lid (105) hinged connected through a hinge mechanism (106), a servo motor (107) operatively coupled to the lid through a mechanical linkage assembly (108), and a wireless transmitter-receiver control system configured to remotely actuate the lid during flight. The Petri dish (104) remains enclosed during take-off, ascent, descent, and landing, thereby minimizing contamination, and is selectively exposed only at a predetermined altitude or geographical location for a controlled sampling duration. Upon completion of sampling, the servo motor (107) returns the lid (105) to the closed position to preserve the collected microbial sample for subsequent microbiological examination. The invention provides a lightweight, reusable, contamination-resistant, economical, and field-deployable airborne microbial sampling platform suitable for aerobiological investigations, atmospheric microbiology, environmental monitoring, agricultural pathogen surveillance, ecological research, and public health applications.
