Abstract: The present invention relates to an AI Vision Based E-Waste Classification Robot that automates the identification and classification of e-waste through state-of-the-art computer vision and deep learning technologies. The system tackles some of the issues faced by manual e-waste sorting, such as low classification accuracy, time- consuming, labor-intensive, and hazardous electronic parts exposure. The proposed invention uses a high-resolution camera to take pictures of waste electronic goods, and applies image preprocessing, feature extraction, and object detection algorithms based on convolutional neural network (CNN) to recognize the various types of e- waste. The robot can identify a broad spectrum of electronic waste components such as printed circuit boards (PCBs), mobile phones, batteries, chargers, cables, keyboards, computer peripherals, LED bulbs, adapters and other electronic components. The AI model categorizes the objects real-time by their visual features and segregates them into given categories of recycling. The system can be configured to use embedded computing platforms like the NVIDIA Jetson, or other edge AI devices to do local inference, minimizing latency and making the system operate autonomously without having to rely on cloud-based processing. The invention also includes a robotic pick and place mechanism or an automated sorting unit that removes classified e-waste and deposit it in a collection bin. The intelligent vision module is used to continuously analyze images captured to enhance classification accuracy and retrain with newly obtained image sets to adapt to new electronic products. The proposed system reduces manual intervention, leads to better worker safety as workers do not get themselves exposed to the dangerous e-waste, and increases the sorting speed and accuracy to a great extent from the conventional manual method. The AI Vision Based E-Waste Classification Robot offers a scalable, affordable and eco-friendly solution for e-waste recycling companies, e-waste collection centers, schools, smart cities, and municipal waste management facilities. The invention integrates AI, computer vision, and robotic automation in one platform, which facilitates the efficient recovery of resources, diminishes landfill waste, fosters circular economy efforts, and aids in environmentally sustainable management.
