Abstract: AI-Powered Refrigerator Food Shelf-Life Tracking Using Computer Vision and Spoilage Prediction ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION Disclosed is an AI-powered refrigerator shelf life tracking system and corresponding method for automated food freshness monitoring without manual user input. A self-contained retrofit device unit, mountable within any existing refrigerator without permanent modification, incorporates a wide-angle image capture module, a passive infrared door-opening sensor, a temperature sensing element, a microprocessor unit, and a wireless communication module. Upon door-opening detection, the system captures an image and processes it using a deep learning food item classification algorithm trained specifically on Indian household food item imagery to identify and timestamp each food item. A multi-factor shelf life prediction algorithm computes a dynamically temperature-adjusted remaining shelf life for each tracked item, and a visual spoilage detection sub-module independently analyses images for colour change, mould, and texture degradation. Upon remaining shelf life falling below a configurable threshold or upon visual spoilage detection, an alert is transmitted via a cloud server to a companion mobile application, which additionally provides live inventory display and recipe suggestions for expiring items. The system is particularly suited to Indian household requirements through its India-specific food item database of not less than 500 food item types.
