MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641108161 A) filed by Pragati Engineering College on September 09, 2026, for Ai Panic Detection Speaker For Railway Concourses.
Inventors include Mrs. Lakshmi Viveka K; Ms. Harini Allampalli; Dr. Vemuri Sailaja; and Mr. Kondapalli V V Subba Rao.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: AI PANIC DETECTION SPEAKER FOR RAILWAY CONCOURSES An edge-artificial-intelligence acoustic crowd panic detection and adaptive public addressing response system for railway concourses is disclosed. The system comprises many of ceiling mounted acoustic sensor nodes distributed across a concourse zone, an edge AI gateway and an adaptive public address subsystem. Each acoustic sensor node comprises three I2S MEMS microphones arranged in a triangular array for time difference of arrival localisation, an ESP32-S3 processor for local audio acquisition and feature extraction, three passive infrared sensors for crowd motion estimation, an auxiliary analogue microphone and a LoRa wireless transceiver. The ESP32-S3 extracts MFCC, delta MFCC, zero crossing rate, short time energy, spectral centroid and RMS features from audio windows and executes an INT8-quantized multilayer perceptron to classify normal crowd murmur, train arrival noise, prepanic agitation, active panic and public addressing announcement. Only derived information and panic scores are transmitted to the gateway, and raw audio is not transmitted. The gateway executes a higher capacity convolutional neural network on mel-spectrogram data and an LSTM temporal predictor using sequential panic observations from multiple nodes to estimate panic onset in advance. A message selector maps panic probability and temporal prediction to graded public-address responses comprising calm, firm and urgent levels, with configurable directional guidance, volume and language. A multilingual library including Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Marathi may be provided. The gateway displays a zone panic heatmap and can transmit an urgent SMS alert to designated railway safety personnel. The system is scalable from four nodes to larger multi-zone deployments, may be PoE powered with battery backup, and is connectable to an existing station PA infrastructure.
