MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641097959 A) filed by Sri Eshwar College Of Engineering on August 12, 2026, for Ai-Enabled Uav System For Plastic Waste Detection And Gps-Based Geolocation For Manual Collection.
Inventors include Muthu Samy M; Navasree R S; and P Ganeshan.
The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.
Abstract: The proposed invention presents an intelligent UAV-based system for detecting plastic waste and recording its geographical location for efficient manual collection. The UAV is equipped with a high-resolution RGB camera, GPS module, flight controller, onboard processing unit, and an AI-based object detection model. During flight, the UAV captures aerial images of the survey area, and the AI model processes the images in real time to identify plastic waste. Whenever plastic waste is detected, the system automatically records the corresponding GPS coordinates, timestamp, and detection information. The collected data is stored in a database and visualized on a digital map, enabling cleanup personnel to directly navigate to the identified locations and manually remove the plastic waste. The proposed system reduces manual inspection time, improves monitoring accuracy, supports large-area environmental surveillance, and contributes to sustainable plastic waste management by combining UAV technology, Artificial Intelligence, computer vision, and GPS-based geolocation into a single integrated platform.
