Abstract: The increasing demand for passenger safety in railway transportation has led to the development of intelligent monitoring systems that can detect and respond to emergencies in real time. This project presents a Train Compartment Safety System that integrates violence detection and fire & smoke monitoring using Raspberry Pi 4, Pi Camera, GSM module, fire sensors, buzzer, and red indication LED. The Raspberry Pi 4 serves as the core processing unit, running machine learning models to analyze live video streams for abnormal or violent activities and to detect fire hazards, while smoke and fire sensors provide additional environmental monitoring. This dual-layer detection approach ensures higher reliability by combining vision-based ML detection with sensor-based confirmation. Upon detection of any incident, the system automatically generates an emergency alert containing the compartment number and transmits it via GSM to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). In addition, a buzzer and red LED provide immediate local warning inside the compartment, while the live video footage is streamed directly to the driver’s cabin display for- tirmeae lsituational awareness. This hybrid system not only ensures rapid response and minimizes risks to passenger safety but also reduces the workload of the driver, as violent incidents and fire hazards are automatically detected and highlighted without requiring constant manual monitoring. The proposed system is cost-effective, scalable across multiple compartments, and eliminates reliance on manual surveillance, thereby improving the safety standards of railway travel.
