Abstract: An AI-enabled modular in-line pipeline monitoring system provides real-time monitoring for water distribution networks. Multiple in- line sensing modules are installed between pipeline segments and form a continuous flow path through an internal flow chamber. Sensors positioned in the flow chamber measure hydraulic parameters including flow and pressure and water-quality parameters including at least pH and turbidity, with optional conductivity, dissolved oxygen, residual chlorine and oxidation-reduction potential. Each module includes a sealed electronics chamber isolated from the flow chamber. A custom printed circuit board housed in the sealed electronics chamber integrates a wireless microcontroller footprint, antenna region, sensor connector headers, auxiliary connector sections, trace-routed interconnections, embedded processing, power routing, and communication functions. A central monitoring platform aggregates multi-node data and performs temporal and spatial analytics by computing derived metrics such as pressure differentials and flow continuity ratios. A hybrid rule-based and AI classifier detects and classifies anomalies as leakage, unauthorized extraction, or contamination and generates real-time alerts for operators.
