Abstract: AI-enabled IoT smart waste management system with an explicit chew mechanism provides an automated apparatus for intelligent waste identification, mechanical volume reduction, segregation and remote monitoring. The apparatus receives waste through a waste inlet and employs a camera-based artificial intelligence module to classify waste into plastic, paper, metal, organic and glass categories. An embedded controller operates an explicit chew mechanism comprising rotating cutting blades, a shredding unit and compression rollers for sequential cutting, shredding and compression of the received waste. A servo-operated segregation unit directs the processed waste to a corresponding storage compartment according to the classification result. An ultrasonic sensor, load cell, gas sensor and temperature/humidity sensor monitor fill level, waste quantity and environmental conditions. Sensor and classification data are transmitted through Wi-Fi, GSM or LoRa to a remote platform for monitoring, analytics, maintenance support and collection planning. The system integrates AI-based classification, mechanical volume reduction, automated segregation and IoT-enabled monitoring in a unified waste-management apparatus.
