MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641088507 A) filed by Thota Durga Prasad; Dr Satti Sudha Mohan Reddy; and Dr K Aruna Kumari on July 20, 2026, for Ai-Enabled Iot-Based Intelligent Medication Adherence And Emergency Response System For Asthma And Copd Management.

Inventors include Thota Durga Prasad; Dr Satti Sudha Mohan Reddy; and Dr K Aruna Kumari.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to an AI-enabled IoT-based intelligent medication adherence and emergency response system designed to improve inhaler usage among asthma and COPD patients. The system uses a single inhaler actuation sensor to detect every inhaler use in real time. An ESP32 microcontroller records the usage time through an RTC module updates the remaining doses, and displays information on an OLED display. The system provides buzzer and vibration alerts to remind patients to take their medication on time. Upon detecting a missed scheduled dose, the system transmits SMS notifications via the GSM module and, during an emergency event, broadcasts the live patient GPS location coordinates to caregivers. The system synchronizes medication records to a cloud platform and a mobile application via Wi-Fi to enable remote monitoring, adherence analysis, refill reminders, and AI-based missed-dose prediction. The proposed invention enhances medication compliance, reduces missed doses, supports emergency response with real-time location tracking, and enables doctors and caregivers to monitor patient health remotely. The system is low-cost, portable, and suitable for home care, hospitals, and telemedicine applications, making it a practical and innovative solution for modern respiratory healthcare.
