Abstract: The present invention provides an AI-Based Real Time Food Spoilage Detection System for Retail, an intelligent solution to minimize the food waste and improve the inventory management in retail environments. This system uses advanced computer vision and artificial intelligence techniques to continuously monitor perishable food items on store shelves. High-resolution cameras take pictures of fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat and other perishables, while artificial intelligence algorithms analyze visual clues such as color changes, mold growth, texture degradation and physical damage to identify the early signs of spoilage. The system detects the products before they are unfit to be consumed so the retailer can take corrective actions on time. Whenever there is a threat of spoilage, the system sends out alerts to retail employees, enabling them to examine, discard, or relocate the items that have been affected. At the same time, the system initiates the process of sending alerts about price reductions of the items close to their expiration dates to encourage the customers to buy those items before they get spoiled. The system helps the retailers avoid any kind of financial losses by selling them at lower prices to consumers. Sustainability is achieved by this innovation in terms of reduction of unnecessary food wastage, reduction in costs of operations and improvement in customer satisfaction due to high-quality products and competitive prices. The invention further encourages sustainable practices in retail businesses through minimization of the carbon footprint that results from wastage. The invention further helps achieve UN SDG 1: No Poverty through provision of affordable nutritious food at reduced prices and minimization of losses caused by food wastage. In conclusion, the AI-driven innovation achieves sustainable food management in retail businesses efficiently and economically.
