MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641110142 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 14, 2026, for Ai-Based Predictive Thermal Monitoring And Adaptive Charging Optimization System For Preventing Battery Swelling In Consumer Smartphones And Laptops.

Inventors include Mala Serene; M Kaarthik; M Rekha; and Harish Kumar S.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention provides an AI-Based Predictive Thermal Monitoring and Adaptive Charging Optimization System for preventing battery swelling in smartphones, laptops, and portable electronic devices. The system operates as a software-only, on-device Edge AI framework that continuously acquires battery temperature, voltage, current, State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), processor workload, application activity, and charging behavior. A predictive analytics layer generates a Thermal Stress Score (TSS) and Swelling Probability Score (SPS) to identify potential thermal instability and swelling risk before critical conditions arise. The system further incorporates behavioral charging learning, application-level heat mapping, CPU/GPU-aware charging control, battery age compensation, micro thermal gradient analysis, adaptive charging orchestration, and self-learning optimization. Based on the predicted risk, charging current, charging rate, and charging operation are dynamically controlled. The framework operates offline without cloud connectivity, external hardware, or internet access, thereby providing proactive, personalized, autonomous, and privacy-preserving battery safety management.
