MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641085463 A) filed by Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College on July 13, 2026, for Ai-Based Oil Spill Detection And Cleanup Using An Autonomous Boat.
Inventors include Dr. P. Jamuna; Dr. D. Sivaraj; Dr. S. Anbumalar; and R. Vignesh.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The titled invention discloses an Al-based autonomous oil spill detection and cleanup system that integrates real-time vision sensing, artificial intelligence, autonomous navigation, and mechanical oil recovery into a single compact platform. The system comprises a camera module (2) continuously captures images of the water surface, and the deep learning detection module (4) identifies and localizes oil spills in real time. Based on the detection results, the processing and control unit (1) autonomously navigates the boat using differential thrust provided by the propulsion motors (5). Upon reaching the contaminated region, the disc-type oil skimmer (7) selectively recovers floating oil, the PVC oil scrapers (8) remove the collected oil from the rotating discs, and the pump motor (10) transfers the recovered oil into the onboard oil storage tank (11). The power management system (12) supplies regulated electrical power to all onboard components, ensuring stable and reliable operation.
