Abstract: Unpredictable weather like rain showers or harsh sun can often pose inconveniences to humans while they are going about their daily routines. Commuters, whether students going to school, office-goers, travelers, cyclists, or food delivery agents all carry their essential items such as laptops, books, paperwork, files, or tablets which might be susceptible to damage in adverse weather conditions. While backpacks serve the function of carrying these personal items, they don’t serve to protect the commuter from the elements. In this invention, we propose an AI-Based Adaptive Weather Protection Backpack. An Artificially Intelligent (AI) wearable system that automatically senses and protects the wearer from changing weather conditions while looking no different from a traditional backpack. AI, ambient sensors, weather forecasting algorithms, voice-assist, and a motorized foldable canopy work together to sense the surrounding weather conditions. Variables such as temperature, humidity, precipitation, solar radiation, and wind speed are calculated to determine unpleasant weather. If unfavorable weather is sensed, the system voices a notification to the wearer and registers the wearer’s acknowledgement via microphone and speakers. After acknowledgement, the foldable canopy will automatically open to shield the wearer from rain and/or harsh sunlight. Additional features include smart power management for longer battery life, solar charging, waterproof circuitry, and emergency manual override to deploy the canopy. This invention allows for smart hands-free protection from harsh weather conditions in an on the-go scenario giving users comfort, safety, and protection of their personal belongings.
