MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611080447 A) filed by Monish Bhandari on June 30, 2026, for Ai- Integrated Microwave Plasma System For Real- Time Sterilization And Volume Reduction Of Infectious Biomedical Waste.
Inventor includes Monish Bhandari.
The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses an advanced system and method for real-time sterilization and volume reduction of infectious biomedical waste using an integrated combination of microwave irradiation, plasma-based treatment, and artificial intelligence (AI)- driven process optimization. The system comprises a waste feeding and shredding unit, a microwave treatment chamber operating within a frequency range of 915 MHz to 2.45 GHz, a plasma generation module configured to produce reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, a sensor network for real-time monitoring of operational parameters, and an Al-based control unit. Biomedical waste introduced into the system is first mechanically reduced in size and then subjected to uniform volumetric heating through microwave ENERGY, facilitating rapid thermal inactivation of pathogens. Simultaneously, the waste is exposed to non-thermal or atmospheric plasma, generating highly reactive species capable of destroying microbial DNA, viruses, spores, and toxic organic compounds. The integrated Al control system continuously processes input data from temperature, gas composition, moisture, and bioload sensors to dynamically regulate microwave power, plasma intensity, exposure duration, and feed rate, thereby ensuring optimal sterilization efficiency and energy utilization. The system achieves a sterilization efficiency of greater than 99.99% and a volume reduction of 60% to 90%, while minimizing harmful emissions through an integrated gas filtration unit. The invention provides a scalable, energy- efficient, and environmentally safe alternative to conventional biomedical waste treatment methods such as incineration and autoclaving, with applicability in hospitals, laboratories, pharmaceutical industries, and biohazard management facilities.
