Abstract: The present invention is an IoT, enabled drone, based system for automatically detecting cracks in road surfaces and performing predictive maintenance of road infrastructure. A drone equipped with a high, resolution camera flies over the roads and takes pictures of the surfaces. Using edge AI techniques, the images are analyzed onboard the drone to detect, classify, and estimate the severity of cracks. The processed data is sent to a remote server or cloud platform via an Internet of Things communication module for storage and further analysis. Predictive analytics techniques are applied to the data collected from the roads in order to monitor the degradation trends of the roads and estimate when maintenance will be needed next. A centralized dashboard visualizes the analyzed data, giving real, time alerts, severity reports, and maintenance recommendations to the authorities, thus enabling them to perform road maintenance in a timely and efficient manner. The proposed system eliminates the need for manual inspection, enhances accuracy, lowers operational costs, and improves road safety by allowing for the timely management of infrastructure.
