MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611064606 A) filed by Chandigarh University on May 22, 2026, for Advanced Multifunctional Boron Nitride Nanotube (bnnt)-Based Nose Cone For Hypersonic Vehicles.

Abstract: The present invention is a multifunctional Boron Nitride Nanotube (BNNT)-enhanced nose cone architecture for hypersonic vehicles designed to withstand extreme aerodynamic and thermal conditions. The proposed layered composite system integrates BNNT- reinforced ceramic and polymeric materials to provide thermal protection, structural load-bearing capability, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, and real-time health monitoring within a single lightweight structure. BNNTs offer exceptional thermal stability, high mechanical strength, electrical insulation, and chemical inertness, making them suitable for advanced aerospace applications. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations were conducted to evaluate thermo-mechanical performance under hypersonic flight conditions, including stagnation heating and pressure loading. Results indicate improved thermal endurance, structural integrity, reduced mass, and enhanced reusability compared to conventional materials, demonstrating strong potential for future reusable hypersonic and re-entry vehicle systems.
