Abstract: The present invention relates to the development of an IoT-enabled environmental monitoring system tailored to deliver precise and uninterrupted real-time monitoring of environmental conditions via an intelligent distributed network of sensor nodes. The proposed system is made up of several wireless sensor nodes that have environmental sensors used to measure various environmental parameters such as air quality, temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, noise levels, water quality, soil moisture, particulates, and dangerous gases. Information collected by the wireless sensor nodes is shared using wireless communication protocols between the sensor nodes and edge computing gateways where local processing, anomaly detection, and data validation take place. Intelligent algorithms based on artificial intelligence and machine learning are applied to predict environmental parameters, forecast environmental pollution, detect trends, and identify faults in the sensors while also sending alerts for any abnormal environmental conditions.
