The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: The Intelligent Beam Assist (IBA) is an advanced active safety system designed to automatically manage vehicle headlight beam selection based on real-time assessment of oncoming traffic glare, ambient lighting conditions and vehicle speed. The system comprises three primary components: (1) a photo-sensing unit equipped with optical lenses and photodiodes to detect and characterize incoming light sources, integrated with a GPS module to continuously monitor vehicle velocity; (2) a microprocessor-based adaptor/control unit programmed with sophisticated decision algorithms incorporating traffic regulations, driving engineering principles, and environmental parameters; and (3) a relay-based switching mechanism interfaced with the vehicle's existing headlight circuit. The system operates through a multi-parameter decision matrix, analyzing: (a) the intensity, angle of incidence and classification of oncoming vehicle headlights; (b) ambient illumination levels categorizing road conditions as lit, partially lit or dark; and (c) vehicle speed derived from GPS signals, categorized into three operational modes of 0-20 km/h as low beam mandatory, 20-70 km/h as dynamic mode and above 70 km/h as high beam default. Based on this analysis, the IBA automatically selects the optimal beam, ensuring the driver maintains maximum visibility without causing glare to other road users. The invention addresses the critical road safety challenge of improper headlight beam usage during night-time driving, which is identified as a major contributing factor to road accidents, particularly in developing nations. By automating a previously manual and error-prone process, the IBA system reduces driver workload, mitigates visual fatigue, ensures compliance with traffic regulations and significantly enhances road safety for all users. The system's universal design allows retrofitting into any multi-headlight vehicle operating on 12V or 24V electrical systems without modifying existing wiring, while the inclusion of a manual override mechanism preserves driver discretion.
