MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521086268 A) filed by Pandit Deendayal Energy University on September 11, 2025, for Advanced Hydrogen Blending System For Natural Gas Infrastructure.
Inventors include Mr. Kunal Ravindra Gajbhiye; Dr. Namrata Bist; and Dr. Anirbid Sircar.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The titled invention discloses an Advanced Hydrogen Blending System tailored for the safe, efficient, portable and automated integration of hydrogen into existing natural gas infrastructures. The system consists of modular subsystems that include precision mass flow controllers (4, 5), non-return valves, static mixer chambers (6), and an intelligent PLC-based control system (12) to facilitate the real-time monitoring and control of blending operations. The blending unit incorporates various safety features such as flashback arrestors (13), high pressure safety valves (14, 15), emergency shutoff valves, and interlocks to prevent hazards such as backflow, overpressure, and fire risks. This system enables accurate hydrogen-to-natural gas blending up to 30% by volume ensuring consistent gas quality and combustion characteristics. Its compact and scalable design allows seamless implementation in residential, commercial, and industrial settings with minimal infrastructure modifications. The blended gas is stored in a mixed gas storage reactor (10) and regulated through a gas regulator (11) before being supplied to a gas burner (16) for validation of combustion performance. By promoting controlled hydrogen injection into the gas grid, the invention supports global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and accelerates the transition toward cleaner, more sustainable energy systems. The innovative integration of safety, automation, and compatibility makes it a highly viable and future-proof solution for hydrogen economy implementation.
