Abstract: innovative electric vehicle charging concept that solves the issues of long charging time, low conversion efficiency, and low charging efficiency that are associated with the traditional methods of electric vehicle battery charging. The new approach uses an alternating current-direct current (AC—DC) power conversion system that consists of an AC—DC power supply and a high-frequency DC—DC LLC resonant converter, as well as an advanced charging control unit. The proposed method and system address the problem of slow charging of electric vehicles by enabling the production of controlled and efficient power with reduced losses during conversion from AC to DC and DC to DC. The system utilizes a constant current-constant voltage (CC-CV) charging strategy and employs a constant power (CP) control during the CC and CV modes to reduce the charging time and increase the efficiency of battery charging while maintaining a safe level of battery temperature. The LLC resonant converter allows the system to operate with zero voltage switching (ZVS) and zero current switching (ZCS) that contribute to the high efficiency. Advanced voltage and current sensing allows the charging system to monitor and adjust the charging process at various stages. The proposed solution is cost-effective, easily scalable, efficient, and flexible to be integrated into different electric vehicle battery charging systems.
