Abstract: An IoT-enabled apparatus and method are disclosed for facial recognition and classification of mask compliance combined with precision temperature screening using deep learning. A camera module captures video frames of an individual approaching a monitored access point; a deep-learning face detector localises the face region, and a convolutional neural network classifier, built on a MobileNetV2 backbone and trained by transfer learning, classifies the face as ‘Mask’ or ‘No Mask’ with an associated confidence score. An HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor detects the presence of the individual, while an MLX90614 non-contact infrared temperature sensor measures body temperature. An Arduino UNO microcontroller receives the classification result and temperature reading, displays the status on an I2C 16x2 LCD, and selectively actuates a servo-operated gate to grant access only when the individual is classified as wearing a mask and the measured temperature is within a safe range; an audible buzzer alerts on non-compliance. The system achieves a classification accuracy of up to 97.80 percent and automates mask-compliance enforcement and temperature screening at entry points of malls, universities, offices, hospitals, and similar establishments with minimal human intervention.
