Abstract: The present invention relates to an artificial intelligence and Internet of Things enabled smart traffic management and accident prevention system for urban areas. The system comprises roadside sensing units, edge computing units, traffic signal control units, communication gateways, a central traffic intelligence server, an accident risk prediction engine, an adaptive signal optimisation module, a pedestrian safety module, a vehicle alert module and an emergency response coordination module. The system acquires real-time traffic, pedestrian, vehicle, road-condition and environmental data and processes such data through edge computing and artificial intelligence models to identify congestion, unsafe vehicle behaviour, pedestrian conflict, road obstruction, signal violation and accident-prone conditions. A dynamic accident-risk score is generated for monitored road zones, and traffic signal timing is modified according to traffic demand and predicted safety risk. The system further generates preventive alerts to road users, supports emergency vehicle green corridor creation and enables privacy-conscious operation by transmitting processed metadata instead of continuous raw data wherever possible.
