Abstract: The current invention declares an adjustable three-stack masonry responsemeter for measuring the compressive deformation and stress-strain response of the masonry prisms. Generally, in brick masonry, load disturbance and cracking initiation are mainly from the brick-mortar interfaces. So, the measurement of masonry deformation under compressive loading was quite challenging to acquire precise stress and strain parameters on incremental loading to the cracking load. The apparatus arrangements include rigid rectangular frames, vertical threaded rods, a mounted displacement dial gauge, and locking/fastening members. A three-stack vertically stacked masonry prism is positioned with a gauge length of 200 mm between the top and bottom frames or holding points of the prisms. During the application of compressive load, axial deformation of the three-stack masonry produces relative displacement between gauge portions of the masonry prisms. The displacement values per loading range are detected by the digital dial gauge and used to determine axial stress-strain response. The compressive load and area of load contact are used to determine the compressive stress, and the corresponding displacement values observed from the dial gauge are used to designate the compressive strain; by this means, the stress-strain response of masonry prisms is generated. The adjustable members and frame dimensions can accommodate vertically stacked masonry prisms of different dimensions and provide a portable and reusable structural setup without demanding direct attachment of the displacement device to the masonry specimen.
