MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511093002 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras Hindu on September 27, 2025, for Adenine-Copper Coordinated Two-Dimensional (2d) Crystalline Bionanozyme Complex And Method Of Preparation Thereof.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel two-dimensional (2D) crystalline BioNanozyme composed of adenine and copper (II) ions, forming a supramolecular coordination complex with a unique orthorhombic crystal structure and square-pyramidal copper geometry. This adenine-copper (A-Cu) BioNanozyme exhibits multi-enzyme mimetic catalytic activity, simultaneously emulating laccase, catechol oxidase, and peroxidase enzymes. Synthesized via green methodologies including solvent-free mechanochemical grinding and aqueous-phase evaporation, the material enables eco-friendly production and industrial scalability. The BioNanozyme demonstrates potent catalytic efficiency in degrading phenolic pollutants and sensing redox-active biomarkers like dopamine, hydrogen peroxide and glutathione. Its high biocompatibility is validated through in vitro and in vivo studies, along with excellent reusability and structural stability. This multifunctional platform offers dual utility in environmental remediation and biomedical biosensing, overcoming limitations of traditional nanozymes. The invention represents a new composition of matter with emergent properties derived from its unique coordination architecture, not observed in the isolated components.
