MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641072265 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 10, 2026, for Additively Manufactured Smart Non-Pneumatic Tire With Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting For Swarm Vehicle Network.
Inventors include Denis; Shreeshankar S; and Paras Jain.
The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT ADDITIVELY MANUFACTURED SMART NON-PNEUMATIC TIRE WITH PIEZOELECTRIC ENERGY HARVESTING FOR SWARM VEHICLE NETWORK A non-pneumatic tire (10) comprises a tread portion (12) forming an outer contact surface, an auxetic metamaterial lattice (14) comprising re-entrant unit cells oriented to compress inwardly upon radial loading and concentrate mechanical strain at localized nodes, a hub (16) configured for mounting to a vehicle axle, an inner ring (18) adjacent to the hub (16), an outer ring (20) positioned beneath the tread portion (12), wherein the auxetic metamaterial lattice (14) extends between the inner ring (18) and the outer ring (20), a piezoelectric sensor (22) embedded within the auxetic metamaterial lattice (14) at one of the localized nodes and configured to generate an electrical signal in response to deformation of the auxetic metamaterial lattice (14), a power management module (26) configured to convert the electrical signal to a regulated voltage output, and electronic components (28) powered by the regulated voltage output.
