Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of Internet of Things (IoT) based wearable assistive devices. A wrist-worn assistive device (300) provides environmental sound awareness to deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals by capturing ambient sounds via a microphone (302) and converting them into tactile vibrations rendered through a haptic driver interface (306) and linear resonant actuator (308). A single microcontroller unit (307), having a processing core and an integrated ultra-low-power coprocessor, performs sound classification on the device (300) without a smartphone or cloud server. The coprocessor monitors audio energy from the microphone (302) and wakes the core only on exceeding a threshold, conserving battery during idle periods. The device (300) supports personalization through custom sound recording and confidence-based feedback refining classification and haptic response. Predefined vibration patterns forming a haptic codebook correspond to sound categories and urgency levels. Principal use includes alerting hearing-impaired users to critical sounds, enhancing safety and independence.
