Abstract: The Smart Irrigation System Using Machine Learning serves as a complete cyber-physical system which automatically manages agricultural irrigation with exceptional accuracy. The system conducts its operations through a closed control loop which connects the actual physical conditions of the soil-plant-atmosphere system to the hydraulic control system. The system includes a central processing unit which uses the dual-core ESP32 microcontroller as its main edge computing component according to its preferred design. The microcontroller connects to a capacitive soil moisture sensor which measures the root zone Volumetric Water Content (VWC). The sensor uses frequency domain reflectometry and capacitive charge transfer to measure the dielectric permittivity of the soil through its operational design. The system uses power-gating topology to protect agricultural electronics from rapid corrosion because the sensor receives power through a digital GPIO pin which operates during the short time that it needs to take a stable measurement.
